What Makes A Great Logo – Where to Start?
The logo design is a crucial element of brand identification. They help you stand out from your competitors, bring in new customers, and make a good first impression.
It’s not as easy as it appears to create a logo! Considerable planning and preparation must be done prior to starting the creative process.
This article will help you understand what makes a great logo design, where to start, and why some concepts succeed while others fail.
Start With The Basics
You’ve got a great idea for a logo, but you’re not sure where to begin. Don’t worry! We’ll give you some fundamental questions to which you already need to know the answers in order to get you moving in the correct way.
1) What is the name of your business?
2) What type of logo should it have (e.g., food, apparel, animals, etc.)?
3) Do you want the design to be simple or complex? If so, how complex should it be?
Just think about it for a minute…Your brand is centered on your consumers. How do they feel? What will attract them most? What do they require?
A logo is just as vital as high-quality products and client referrals in developing a successful business.
Consider the feelings you want to provoke and how you want your customers to react to your brand. You can help your brand create a lasting impression by selecting the proper color combination, forming a more powerful connection with your audience.
Create A Style Guide
A style guide is a document that instructs the design team on how to utilize your logo and brand across several mediums.
When designing this document, consider how you want the logo to be used (print or digital).
If you have an existing logo design, it’s helpful to use that as a starting point for creating your style guide. Alternatively, you could create two versions of the same image: one with all black text on white background and another version with white text on colored background – or vice versa depending on what suits your needs best.
Creating a mood board from the start of the project is another useful idea for designers. A mood board is a photo collage that represents a certain notion or ‘feeling’. The mood boards you make when you first begin designing might help you keep focused on the concept that satisfies your client’s expectations.
7 Colors of the Rainbow
According to research – people have deep associations with colors. Because different hues may evoke different feelings, it is critical to analyze what meaning and emotion is being transmitted by each color you pick.
To help you understand what each color represents, we’ve included the 7 colors of the rainbow and their meanings below:
Red (Power+Security+Enthusiasm+Action+Love)
Orange (Success+Optimism+Youth+Emotion+Perseverance)
Yellow (Happiness+Warmth+Fun+Curiosity+Intellect)
Green (Growth+Quality+Luck+Safety+Loyalty)
Blue (Security+Purpose+Honesty+Reliability+Responsibility)
Indigo (Awareness+Intuition+Integrity+Justice+Devotion)
Violet (Imagination+Spirituality+Creativity+Luxury+Fantasy)
Perhaps you’ll choose a hue that isn’t on the list, such as black, white, gray, or brown. Whatever you decide, be smart in your marketing efforts and choose colors that convey your message and work with your brand’s identity.
To ensure that your visual solutions match the ideals that your brand stands for, TechBear makes it our business to know how to accurately capture all hues.
Consider Your Target Audience
One of the most important things you can do is consider your target audience. What will make them relate to your brand? What will make them remember you? How can you make your logo stand out among others?
If the business is trying to appeal to young, hipster-esque millennials, then a trendy and edgy design might be effective. If you’re designing for an older audience, you might want to consider fonts with old-fashioned flourishes— like Cursive or Victorian.
The takeaway here is that every person has their own preferences and tastes, so if you design a logo based on these factors it can help differentiate your business from other companies in the same niche market space—or just appeal to its target audience. We do want that, right?
What You Should Avoid When It Comes To Your Logo
AVOID: Using too many colors. A logo needs to be straightforward, clean and easy to read.
AVOID: Using too many fonts. It’s important that your logo is easily recognizable when printed out or displayed on the web, so stick with one typeface family (e.g., Helvetica) unless you have a good reason not do so—and even then there should probably be another font in there somewhere).
AVOID: Clip art! You want something original that represents your brand in some way or another – not just any random picture from Google Images for example. Think about how well it could possibly fit into an actual design concept/design process.
